Box Score SELINSGRVOE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's basketball team celebrated Senior Day by defeating Drew 73-64 Saturday evening.
Angie Schedler led all players with 26 points and tallied five assists while Lexie Biggs-Garcia followed with 13 and Courtney Adams totaled 11 to go along with seven rebounds. Senior Sofie Schedler had nine points and five assists.
The Susquehanna defense cause 16 Drew turnovers and held the Rangers to a 37.7 field goal percentage while SU shot 41.5 percent from the field.
The Crusaders were down by seven (10-3) at the 4:38 mark in the first half until a 12-3 run that started with a Biggs-Garcia jumper and ended with a Nicole Gault layup gave SU a slight two-point (15-13) lead going into the second quarter.
The Rangers tied the game (15-15) 15 seconds into the second quarter off a Hannah Miller layup but an Angie Schedler layup gave the Crusaders the lead once again with 8:19 remaining in the half. Both teams traded leads until the 3:01 mark when Drew's Courtney Stephens made a lay-up to give her team a four-point lead (27-23).
Adams followed with a layup to cut the lead to two (27-25) with 2:39 remaining in the half but Drew answered with a trey to go up five (30-25) at the 2:18 mark. Biggs-Garcia hit a layup followed by an Adams free throw to trim the lead to two (30-28) with just under 90 seconds remaining.
A three pointer and a layup increased the Ranger's lead to seven (35-28) with 31 seconds on the clock before a trey from Angie Schedler brought the Crusaders to within four (35-31) with 13 seconds to play. This remained the score as the game went into halftime.
The start of the third quarter saw Drew increase its lead to seven before the Crusaders had an 11-4 run to tie the game at 44 on an Adams layup at the 5:03 mark. SU took a one-point lead off a Angie Schedler three (47-46) with 4:58 remaining in the quarter but the Rangers answered with a trey of their own to go up by two (49-47) 40 seconds later.
The game was tied once again (49-49) on two Komara free throws at the 4:01 mark. With two free throws from Angie Schedler, the Crusaders took a 51-49 lead at the 3:27 mark and went on a 8-0 run to take a 10 point lead into the final quarter (59-49).
The 10 point lead was just enough as the Crusaders were out-scored 15-14 in the fourth quarter but were able to hold their lead to win 73-64.
SU returns to the court on Monday, Feb. 15 for an 8:00 p.m. game against Elizabethtown. This is a makeup game from Jan. 24th.
