Box Score ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's basketball team clinched a spot in the Landmark Conference Tournament as SU defeated Elizabethtown 60-59 on Saturday. The team's first-round opponent is still to be determined.
Crusaders were led by Angie Schedler who scored 19 points and contributed five rebounds. Sofia Schedler totaled 15 points and nine rebounds while Nikki Komara followed with eight.
SU held Elizabethtown to a 30.2 percent field goal percentage and only 31.3 percent from behind the arc.
Susquehanna got off to an impressive start in the first quarter. Angie and Sofie Schedler accounted for the first 14 points of the game as the Crusaders (17-7, 10-6) went up 14-0 with 3:18 remaining in the first quarter. In the remaining time, the Blue Jays (15-8, 10-6) went on a 7-0 run but it was not enough as SU ended the quarter up 14-7.
Elizabethtown scored first in the second quarter to come within five (14-9) at the 9:37 mark but Susquehanna proceeded to go on a 4-0 run to lead 18-9 with 8:07 remaining in the half. With 1:59 on the clock, a jumper by Elizabethtown's Alyssa Aichele brought the Blue Jays within three (23-20) but SU finished strong and went into halftime up by 14 (34-20).
Komara's jumper increased SU's lead to 16 (36-20) 26 seconds into the third quarter. However, the Blue Jays finished the quarter by out-scoring the Crusaders 24-14 to cut the lead to four (48-44) going into the last quarter of action.
Just over five minutes into the fourth quarter, the Crusaders increased their lead to eight (54-46) on a Courtney Adams jumper. At this point the Blue Jays proceeded to go on an 8-0 run to pull within two (56-54) at the 2:03 mark. With 11 seconds remaining in the game, a Komara lay-up gave SU a four-point lead but a three from Elizabethtown's Marissa Gingrich brought the Blue Jays within one (60-59) with five seconds on the clock. Fortunately Elizabethtown was unable to get another chance to tie or take the lead and SU held on for the win.
