Box Score BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's basketball team dropped a 68-55 decision at Moravian College Saturday afternoon.
Susquehanna was led by Nikki Komara with 14 points while Courtney Adams and Angie Schedler contributed 12 points each. Angie Schedler and Nicole Gault led the team in rebounds with eight.
The Greyhounds (16-5, 9-3) jumped out to an early 6-0 lead at the 8:08 minute mark. The Crusaders (13-6, 6-5) and came within two points (12-10) off two free throws from Sofie Schedler with 5:24 remaining in the first quarter and then cut that lead to one point (14-13) on a Komara layup at the 4:28 mark. The Greyhounds went on a 7-0 run, though, to increase their lead to eight (21-13) with 1:45 on the clock.
The Crusaders outscored the Greyhounds 4-2 before the clock ran out but it was not enough and they entered the second quarter trailing by six (23-17).
A six-point second quarter saw the Crusaders eventually enter halftime down by 16 points (39-23). Moravian scored first in the second quarter to increase its lead to eight (25-17) at the 9:26 mark. Susquehanna answered with a jumper from Komara to come within six (25-19) with 7:51 remaining in the half. From this point forward the Greyhounds went on a 14-4 run to end the half up 39-23.
The Crusaders out-scored the Greyhounds 17-8 in the third quarter to cut Moravian's lead to five (47-42). Moravian scored first on a Camille McPherson layup to increase its lead to 18 (41-23) 25 seconds into the quarter. However, Susquehanna answered with an Angie Schedler layup at the 9:09 mark and the defense proceeded to hold the Greyhounds to only six more points for the remainder of the third quarter.
Susquehanna went on a 9-4 run to start the fourth quarter and tied the game at 51 with 5:20 on the clock. Moravian answered with a basket to take the two-point lead but the game was tied once again at the 4:53 mark at 53 from a layup by Adams. The Greyhounds gained the lead again before an Angie Schedler layup brought the Crusaders within one (56-55) with 3:37 remaining in the game.
Unfortunately, Angie Schedler's layup was the last time SU scored for the remainder of the game and Moravian went on a 12-0 run to end the game.
The Crusaders return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 10 when they travel to No. 5/6 Scranton for a 7:00 p.m. Landmark Conference match-up.
