Softball Splits With Randolph-Macon

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ASHLAND, Va. – The Susquehanna softball team split a pair of games with Randolph-Macon College to bring the team's spring break trip to an end.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Crusaders (6-4) defeated the Yellow Jackets (9-5) 7-6. Jamie Fesinstine (3-1) pitched a complete game and allowed six hits and six runs while striking out three.

Genevieve Raley went 3-4 at the plate with a double and two home runs and picked up three RBI's. Leigh Ann Greenwald, Heather Pearson and Claire Hanratty went 2-4 with Greenwald picking up a double and a RBI and Hanratty earned a RBI.

Susquehanna scored first in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. Greenwald doubled to score Raley and then scored, along with Pearson, on an error. Randolph-Macon answered with a four-run bottom of the third to take a 4-3 lead.

In the fourth inning, Raley homered to tie the game at four. This was followed by a Yellow Jacket two-run fifth to take the 6-4 lead. With a runner on base, Raley homered again in the sixth to tie the game at six and a Hanratty single in the seventh that scored Amanda Neveroski was enough to give SU the 7-6 win.

In the second game of the day, Randolph-Macon came away with a 5-0 win. SU's Alexa Gonzalez pitched five and two-thirds innings and struck out three while allowing four runs.

The Crusaders managed six hits from six different individuals but it was not enough as a four-run fifth and a one-run sixth inning for the Yellow Jackets were enough to win the game for Randolph-Macon.

Susquehanna returns to action on Saturday, March 19 when the team opens the home season against Landmark Conference opponent Drew at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
