Two Wins for Baseball on Conference-Opening Weekend

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna baseball team won both of its games against Drew on Saturday with the first coming in extra innings.

In game one, Justin Cassinelli led the Crusaders (8-6, 2-0) as he went 3-4 with a homerun, one RBI and three runs scored. Taylor Luckenbill went 2-3 with two RBI's.

Relief pitcher Liam Conboy (2-1) earned the win in 3.2 innings of work. Matt Cassinelli got the starting nod and pitched four innings and struck out five.

Drew (6-7, 0-2) struck first in the third inning with a three-run inning. Susquehanna answered with two runs in the bottom of the third on a Justin Cassinelli homerun followed by a Zach Leone double that plated Luckenbill and cut the lead to one (3-2).

The Crusaders took a 4-3 lead bottom of the fourth when Luckenbill doubled to score Josh Cimino and Justin Cassinelli.

In the top of the fifth inning, Drew took the lead once again when the Rangers scored two runs but SU tied the game at five in the sixth when Leone doubled to score Justin Cassinelli.

Neither team scored in the remainder of regulation, forcing extra innings. SU won in the bottom of the ninth when Shane Turk hit a sacrifice fly to score Mark Weaver, who pinch ran for Chris Ryan who had reached base on a walk.

Cimino went 3-3 in the second game with three RBI's and two runs scored while Dylan Glassmire went 2-3 with one RBI and a double as Susquehanna won 8-0.

Cory Fallon (3-0) pitched a complete game, one-hit shut-out to earn the win.

SU scored three runs in both the second and third innings to take a 6-0 lead. In the fifth inning, the Crusaders plated one run on Cimino's single to go up 7-0. Glassmire doubled in the bottom of the sixth inning to give SU the 8-0 lead when Dylan Jenkins came around to score.

The Rangers did not score in the top of the seventh inning and Susquehanna held on to win 8-0.

Both teams return to action on Sunday, March 20 for the final game of the three-game series. The game starts at 12:00 p.m.
