Baseball Drops Two

HORMIGUEROS, Puerto Rico – The Susquehanna baseball team dropped two to Kean University in a double header on Wednesday afternoon.

In the first game of the day, the Crusaders (2-5) were defeated 5-4. John Cooley (0-1) pitched six innings and allowed seven hits while striking out three.

Dylan Jenkins and Josh Cimino went 3-4 at the plate while Jenkins totaled two runs and a stolen base and Cimino contributed a double and three RBI's. Justin Cassinelli and Dylan Glassmire went 2-4 with Cassinelli adding a double.

The Cougars (6-5) scored four runs in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead that lasted until the fifth inning when Cimino doubled to right center field to score both Matt Cassinelli and Jenkins to cut the lead in half (4-2).

Kean scored again in the sixth inning to increase its lead to three (5-2) but Susquehanna answered with a run of its own on a fielder's choice (5-3).

In the top of the eighth inning, Jenkins reached on a single and scored on a Cimino single to cut the lead to one (5-4). It was not enough as the Cougars held on to win 5-4.

In the second game of the double header, A.J. Pinto earned the starting nod and pitched two and a third innings and allowed five hits and five runs. Liam Conboy pitched three and a third innings and allowed two runs while striking out four.

Danny Gordon went 2-3 for three with one RBI while Taylor Luckenbill, Zach Leone and Cimino tallied one hit each.

Kean jumped out to a 5-0 lead with a five-run third inning. The Crusaders answered with three runs in the fourth to come within two (5-3). Jenkins reached when he was hit by a pitch and stole second to get into scoring position. Cimino singled and was followed by Gordon who singled as well which scored Jenkins (5-1). Cimino scored on a throwing error while Justin Cassinelli hit a sacrifice fly to score Gordon (5-3).

A two-run sixth inning and a one-run seventh put the game out of reach for Susquehanna as Kean won the second game 8-3 in seven innings.

The Crusaders return to action on Thursday, March 10 when they play Abington in Hormigueros, Puerto Rico at 11:00 a.m.
