Back-to-Back Wins for Men's Lacrosse

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – For the second game in a row, the Susquehanna men's lacrosse team held its opponent to five goals or fewer as SU defeated visiting Marywood University 11-5 on Tuesday afternoon. The Crusaders are now 9-4 on the season and have given up just eight goals in the past two games.

Susquehanna took 36 shots while holding the Pacers to just 15. SU also won 11-of-18 face-offs and had 31 ground balls to Marywood's 13.

Kade MacGregor led the defensive unit with a game-high seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. Corrie Van Haasteren tallied five ground balls and three caused turnovers and goalie Dylan Abplanalp had seven saves.

On the offensive end, Alec Tzaneteas had two goals and two assists, one of four players with two goals in the game. Chet McLaughlin finished with two goals and one assist.

Three different players accounted for SU's three first-quarter goals. Marywood got on the board with a goal at the 9:29 mark of the second quarter but Susquehanna scored two of the final three goals of the half to lead 5-2 at the midway point of the contest.

McLaughlin and Nick Reardon scored the first two goals of the third quarter, increasing the Crusaders' lead to five (7-2). Marywood (4-8) scored twice over the final 8:19 of the third quarter to make it a four-goal game (8-4) heading into the final 15 minutes of play.

SU responded by scoring three fourth-quarter goals while limiting the Pacers to just one. McLaughlin and Andrew Porzio scored back-to-back goals over a 90-second span for a 10-4 Susquehanna lead. Marywood briefly made it a 10-5 game before Jake Calder capped off the Crusaders' scoring with a goal at the 2:39 mark for an 11-5 score.

Susquehanna travels to Catholic on April 16 for a 1 p.m. game.
