Career Day for Hanratty Leads to Sweep for Softball

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna softball won both games of a double header against Wilkes University Wednesday afternoon with final scores of 11-2 after five innings and 12-7.

Senior Claire Hanratty had a career day as she went 2-3 in the first game with a double, a triple and a run scored. She completed the cycle on the day in game day two when she went 2-4 with a home run, – her career first – a single, three RBI's and a run scored.

Pitcher Jamie Fesinstine (10-3) earned the win in both games for her ninth and 10th wins on the season. In game one, she struck out seven in five innings of work. In game two, she struck out six and only allowed two runs.

In the first game of the day, the Crusaders (16-8) defeated the Colonels (6-14) 11-2 in five innings. Lauren Creamer went 1-1 at the plate with a triple, a run scored and two RBI's while Leigh Ann Greenwald went 2-3 with three RBI's, two runs scored and a triple.

Susquehanna scored two runs in the first inning when Creamer tripled down the right field line to score Greenwald and Amanda Neveroski. A nine-run third inning put the game out of reach for the Colonels as SU went on to win 11-2.

In the second game of the day, Creamer and Brooke Kohler went 2-2 at the plate with Kohler adding three RBI's and three runs scored with Creamer adding two RBI's. Heather Pearson went 3-4 with two runs scored. Jackie Gore, who homered in the first game, went 2-3 with a double, a run scored and a RBI while Neveroski went 2-4 with a RBI and a run scored.

Wilkes jumped out to an early 5-0 lead but a six-run third and a five-run fourth gave SU the 12-5 lead. The Colonels scored two runs in the fifth but it was not enough as the Crusaders went on to win 12-7.

Susquehanna returns to action on Saturday, April 16 when the team travels to Landmark Conference rival Moravian College for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
