Baseball Splits with Scranton

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna baseball team split with the University of Scranton Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders won game one of the doubleheader 4-2 before dropping game two 7-1.

In the first game of the day, pitcher John Cooley got the starting nod and picked up the win while tossing six innings and striking out four. Liam Conboy earned the save in one inning of work with two strikeouts.

Matt Cassinelli and Taylor Luckenbill totaled four of the Crusaders' six hits as they both went 2-3 at the plate. Cassinelli tallied two doubles, one RBI and one run scored while Luckenbill had one RBI. Zach Leone and Bryan Palsi contributed the remaining two hits as Palsi was 1-2 while Leone was 1-3 with both picking up a RBI and one run scored.

Scranton (15-16, 9-8) scored its only two runs in the top of the fourth inning to lead 2-0. Susquehanna tied the game in the bottom of the fifth when Palsi singled to center to score Matt Cassinelli and Luckenbill followed with a single up the middle to plate Palsi.

The Crusaders (23-11, 14-3) scored the last runs of the game in the sixth inning to take a 4-2 lead when Leone singled to score Justin Cassinelli while Matt Cassinelli doubled at the next at-bat to score Leone.

In the second game of the day, four different players tallied a hit a piece to total SU's four hits. Dylan Jenkins picked up a RBI and a run scored with a solo homerun.

The Royals opened the game with a run in the top of the first inning but the Crusaders answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game on Jenkins's homer right field.

Unfortunately, Scranton put together a three-run fourth and three-run fifth to ultimately win 7-1.

The Crusaders remain at home on Sunday, April 24 to finish the three-game Landmark Conference series with the Royals with a 12:30 p.m. game. The team will honor its senior members prior to the start of the game.
