GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Susquehanna softball team dropped its first game against Gettysburg 11-7 but picked an 8-6 win in game two to earn the split.

Gene Raley led the offense in game one as she went 3-4 at the plate with one RBI, one run scored and one triple. Emilie Boman went 2-4 with three RBI's and one run scored while Jackie Gore went 2-3 with one run scored. 

A 10-run fourth inning for the Bullets (23-11) ultimately gave Gettysburg the 11-7 win in the first game of the doubleheader.

The Crusaders (21-13) took a 3-0 lead after scoring two runs in the top of the first inning when Boman singled to score Raley while Kelly Miller followed with a single to score Boman on a throwing error. In the third inning, Miller stole second and Pearson scored on a throwing error.

Gettysburg cut the lead to two (3-1) in the bottom of the third but SU scored a run in the top of the fourth on a Raley triple to go up 4-1. The Bullets answered with a 10-run bottom of the inning to ultimately put the game out of reach for the Crusaders.

Susquehanna scored three more runs – a Claire Hanratty homer for one-run in the sixth and two-runs off of a Boman single in the seventh – but it was not enough as Gettysburg won 11-7.

In game two, the Crusaders tallied 11 hits to win 8-6. Pitcher Alexa Gonzalez picked up her seventh win of the season, pitching a complete game with two strikeouts.

Heather Pearson went 4-5 at the plate with four runs scored, one RBI and one double. Miller went 2-3 with one RBI while Amanda Neveroski and Raley added one double a piece with Neveroski picking up two RBI's, as well.

SU scored first, plating three runs in the top of the first inning when Boman and Hanratty both walked with the bases loaded and Leigh Ann Greenwald hit a sacrifice fly that scored Boman.

Gettysburg cut the lead to one when the Bullets scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning but Pearson doubled to score Raley while Neveroski hit a sacrifice fly to score Pearson in the second inning for two runs. Gore hit sac fly to left field that scored Hanratty in the top of the third inning while Neveroski doubled to score Pearson in the bottom of the fourth to give SU the 7-3 lead.

The Bullets scored a run in the fifth to cut the lead to three (7-4) but SU answered with a run in the top of the sixth off of a Miller single to take a four-run lead (8-4).

Gettysburg scored two more in the bottom of the sixth to come within two (8-6) but it was not enough as Susquehanna held on to win 8-6.

The Crusaders return to action on Thursday, April 28 when the team travels to Misericordia for a make-up doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.
