Softball Continues Postseason Play with Saturday Split

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Susquehanna softball team dropped its opening game 2-1 against Catholic and then defeated the University of Scranton 4-3 to stay alive in the Landmark Conference Tournament.

Susquehanna faces the Catholic University of America at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday in an elimination game.

Susquehanna took on The Catholic University of America in game one and Emilie Boman and Kelly Miller led the offense, going 2-3 at the plate. Lauren Creamer picked up SU's only RBI of the game with a groundout.

The Crusaders (24-14) scored first in the bottom of the third inning to take the 1-0 lead when Creamer grounded out to the second baseman to score Heather Pearson.

The Cardinals (25-11) answered with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately, Susquehanna did not score another run and lost 2-1.

In game two the Crusaders trailed 3-2 after four innings before adding two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to go on to win 4-3.

The Crusaders totaled nine hits from six different players. Amanda Neveroski went 3-4 at the plate with two RBI's while Jackie Gore went 2-3 – including a homer – with one RBI and one run scored.

Scranton (20-16) scored three runs in the top of the third inning to go up 3-0 but SU cut the lead to two (3-1) with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Pearson doubled to left center to score Leigh Ann Greenwald.

Susquehanna cut the lead in half (3-2) in the bottom of the fourth inning when Gore homered to left field. The Crusaders held the Royals scoreless for the remainder of the game and took the lead (4-3) in the bottom of the sixth inning when Neveroski singled and scored both McKayla Brady and Brooke Kohler.
