Early Goals Down Men's Soccer against #23 Drew

The Susquehanna University Men's Soccer team fell 4-0 to nationally ranked Drew University in a Landmark Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.

Drew (14-0-1 overall, 5-0 Landmark), ranked #23 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top-25 poll, took the lead against Susquehanna (4-8-2, 2-2-1) nine minutes into the game and added its second goal less than five minutes later.

In the 22nd minute, the Rangers scored their third coming from a corner kick taking the game into halftime with a 3-0 lead.

The River Hawks only allowed one goal in the second half of play, coming in the 55th minute as Susquehanna outshot Drew seven to six in the second half.

The Rangers were awarded a penalty kick in the 21st minute of play but Matt Ellingworth made the save for the River Hawks. Ellingworth was officially credited with five saves in the game but stopped numerous scoring opportunities for Drew.

Susquehanna will return to action at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Elizabethtown College. The River Hawks and Blue Jays are tied for third place in the Landmark Conference.
