Alyssa Bolger's Goal Secures Second Place

Alyssa Bolger scored the only goal of the game as the Susquehanna University Women's Soccer team secured a second place finish and a home game in the Landmark Conference Tournament with the 1-0 win at Elizabethtown College Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Susquehanna (13-3-1 overall, 5-1 Landmark) will host Catholic University in a semifinal match of the Landmark Tournament on Nov. 1.

Elizabethtown (8-5-1, 3-3) battled to a scoreless first half of play but less than two minutes into the second half, the River Hawks were awarded a free kick taken by Colbie Cummings. Emily Sullivan received the free kick, flicked the ball to Bolger who was able to one touch the ball past the Blue Jays goalie.

"This was a team win and I am so proud of them," said Head Coach Nick Hoover. "This is our first time hosting in the conference tournament and it is a great honor that we are not going to take for granted. We have worked extremely hard for this, we did whatever it took and today really showed that."

The River Hawks defense held strong in the first half of play despite a 4-1 shot deficit to the Blue Jays. In the second half of play, the River Hawks out shot Elizabethtown 7-3.

Jennifer Thorshein also stayed strong, recording four saves and earning her fourth shutout win.

The River Hawks play their final regular season game at 1 p.m. against Moravian next Saturday at home.
