Volleyball Win Streak Snapped Against Ranked Foes

Morgan Lowe sailed past the 1,000-career kills milestone with her team-leading 14 kills against Johnson & Wales University Saturday but the Susquehanna University Volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the No. 14 ranked and undefeated Wildcats at the Wid Guisler Tournament at Juniata College in Huntingdon.

Susquehanna (19-10) lost for the first time since September 26 and also dropped a 3-1 decision to Wesleyan (Conn.) University in the afternoon match.

Against Johnson & Wales (26-0), ranked No. 14 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) national poll and No.1 in the NCAA New England Region poll, the River Hawks fell by set scores of 25-20, 25-26 and 25-15.

Against Wesleyan (17-4), listed among the schools also receiving votes in the national poll and No. 3 in the New England Regional poll, Susquehanna dropped the first set 25-13 but rebounded to win set two, 25-19 before Wesleyan finished the match winning sets 3 and 4 with scores of 25-16 and 25-18.

Lowe cleared the milestone for career kills in the first match of the day as she entered the afternoon needing six kills to reach 1,000. She now has over 800 kills in just less than two years at Susquehanna and registered 209 at Division I Lehigh before transferring to Susquehanna.

In the Johnson & Wales match, Lowe led the way with her 14 kills and also had nine digs. Hannah Lyons had nine kills and Sydney Portale added eight. Julie Kreutzer handed out 26 assists while Caroline Beohm had 10 digs and Lizzie Herestofa added eight digs for the River Hawks.

Against Wesleyan, Lowe added 13 kills to her totals while Portale and Lyons had 10 kills each. Lyons and Abby Cannon added three blocks each while Kreutzer and Helen Forman combined for 30 assists. Beohm led the defense with 17 digs and Herestofa had 12 digs for Susquehanna.

The River Hawks return to action Thursday at home against Penn St. Altoona for a non-conference match and Senior Recognition night in O.W. Houts Gymnasium.
