Box Score Sophomore Hunter Pitman scored a pair of goals including the game-winning goal in overtime to lead the Susquehanna University Field Hockey team to a 4-3 victory over Misericordia College Wednesday night in a non-conference game on Mangelsdorf Field in Dallas, Pa.
Susquehanna (6-5) held a 2-1 lead early in the second half and had a 3-2 lead with 13 minutes to play but each time Misericordia rallied to tie the score and the game ventured into overtime tied at 3-3.
A little more than 10 minutes into the overtime period, Pitman scored on a penalty corner with an assist from Jess Smith to end the game. The River Hawks had four shots and three penalty corners in the overtime period.
Misericordia (3-8) took an early lead with a goal in the first eight minutes of the game but a goal by Smith at 21:56 knotted the score at 1-1.
After the halftime intermission, Pitman gave the River Hawks a 2-1 lead with an unassisted goal 1:07 into the period with a hard shot off the left post and into the cage.
Less than four minutes later, the Cougars tied the score again at 2-2.
Maddie Taylor gave Susquehanna another lead at the 57:14 mark of the second half with an unassisted goal but three minutes later Misericordia tied the score again and the teams played a scoreless final 10 minutes leading to the overtime period.
Emily DiGaetano had seven saves for Susquehanna.
The River Hawks return to Landmark Conference play Saturday as the team plays host to Scranton for a 1 p.m. game. Susquehanna will be honoring Breast Cancer Awareness month with Saturday's game.
