Courtney Adams Records a Double-Double in Win over Juniata

Box Score

Junior Courtney Adams made her second start of the season and turned out to be the difference with 21 points and 11 rebounds to propel the Susquehanna University Women's Basketball team past Juniata Wednesday night with a 72-56 victory in a Landmark Conference game in Juniata.

Adams made her presence known in the first quarter with four points and eight rebounds in the first 10 minutes for Susquehanna (13-7 overall, 4-5 Landmark) as the River Hawks took an early 18-9 lead.

After an even second quarter, Adams exploded for 11 points in the third quarter to help extend the Susquehanna lead to 55-42. The River Hawk offense remained hot in the fourth quarter adding another 17 points for a final total of 72 points. The 72 points is second only to the 73 points posted against King's early in the year for the Susquehanna women.

Juniata (9-11, 1-8) scored the first five points of the game but Susquehanna answered with 13 consecutive points. Adams had a pair of baskets in the early run along with baskets by Bailey Trell, Rachel Sweger, Nicole Gault and a 3-pointer by senior Danielle Palazzi.

The Eagles trimmed the lead to four points at 13-9 but Gault hit a 3-pointer and Trell added a layup for the final points of the quarter.

In the second quarter, Maddie Murray hit two early baskets to extend the lead to 22-9. Trell and Tess Nichols added 3-pointers before the end of the period at Susquehanna took a 35036 lead into the intermission.

The third quarter was all Adams and all Susquehanna as the junior post player scored a pair of early inside baskets and then buried a 3-pointer before adding two more inside shots to give the River Hawks a 48-34 lead.

Adams added three more layups in the final quarter and the River Hawks converted five-of-six free throws to seal the victory.

Susquehanna returns home Saturday to face Goucher for Play 4 Kay Day as the River Hawks help to raise awareness for the fight against Breast Cancer. The day is also designated as Pepsi Day with giveaways and the final grand prize awarded for the Pepsi Shootout at halftime of the men's game.
