Comeback Falls Short in Men's Basketball Landmark Semifinal

Junior Ryan Traub led the Susquehanna University Men's Basketball team with 26 points and nine rebounds including a five-point spurt late in the game but it was not enough as the River Hawks fell by an 81-69 scored Wednesday night to Moravian in the Landmark Conference Tournament semifinal game at Johnston Hall in Bethlehem.

Moravian advances to play Scranton for the Landmark Conferenmce title Saturday night at 7 pm.m in Scranton. The Royals beat Catholic 75-68.

Traub was one of three players in double figures scoring for Susquehanna (21-5) as Steven Weidlich added 14 points and Tyler Hoagland chipped in 13. The guard duo combined for nine assists.

The first half was very close with neither team leading by more than five points. The biggest lead was 20-15 lead for Moravian (19-7) midway through the period.

In the second half, the score remained tight until Moravian opened up a lead with a 10-2 run to take a 46-38 lead with 14:36 left to play.

The River Hawks battled back and Traub hit a pair of free throws to pull within a point at 46-45 but the Greyhounds responded with a 9-0 run to open up a double-digit lead.

Traub sparked a 9-2 run with a layup to start the run and a three-point play to cap it as the River Hawks again trimmed the lead to 61-58 with 5:45 to play but Moravian responded once again with a quick 8-2 burst to regain control.

With just over two minutes left, Traub nearly single-handedly brought Susquehanna back. He converted a three-point play to cut into a 10-point lead and then after a Moravian turnover, made a dunk to make it a five-point games at 72-67.

Moravian made six of its next seven free throws to maintain the lead and held on for the victory.

The River Hawks will now wait for the NCAA Tournament selection with the hopes of securing an at-large bid to the tournament for the second consecutive season.
