Gore Grand Slam Leads Susquehanna Softball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Sophomore Jackie Gore smashed a fifth-inning grand slam to lead the Susquehanna University Softball team to an 11-0 victory over SUNY Geneseo Wednesday afternoon. That victory added with a 6-1 win over Roger Williams later in the afternoon gives the River Hawks a 6-0 record in the first three days of games in Leesburg and Clarmont, Florida.

Gore's homer was the icing on the cake against Geneseo as Susquehanna (6-2) jumped out to an early lead with runs in each of the first three innings including a three-run second inning as the River Hawks led 5-0 early. In the fifth inning, Gore drove in four runs with one swing and the River Hawks scored six runs altogether in the inning for the win.

Susquehanna did not need that many runs as Jamie Fesinstine threw a second consecutive shutout allowing just three hits as Geneseo (4-2) advanced just two runners past first base on the day. Fesinstine now has a streak of 12 consecutive scoreless innings after shutting out Salve Regina Monday.

Against Geneseo, Emily Lear, Lauren Creamer and Jill Ahrens each had a pair of hits while Ahrens, Kelly Miller and Gore scored two runs each.

Against Roger Williams, Kasey Bost was 3-for-3 and Miller homered to lead the River Hawks.

Roger Williams took a 1-0 lead in the third and Susquehanna answered with a three-run fourth to take the lead and added one run in the sixth and two more in the seventh for the win.

In the fourth, Lauren Creamer singled to start the inning and Miller followed with a home run to give the River Hawks the lead. Bost doubled with one out in the inning and moved to third on a wild pitch. After Gore was walked, Bost was thrown out at the plate for the second out of the inning.

Mikayla Brady connected on a pinch hit single to score Gore and Jill Ahrens was thrown out at home on the play after the run to end the inning.

Alexa Gonzalez pitched her fourth win of the season allowing six hits and striking out four.

Susquehanna will play Keene State and Dallas in late games Thursday.
