After the Susquehanna University Baseball team jumped out to an early lead, Amherst battled back to tie the game twice but the River Hawks regained the lead twice in the final three innings to post a 6-5 victory Wednesday afternoon at Port Charlotte, Florida.

Susquehanna (4-6) took an early lead on a Zach Leone two-run home run in the third inning and added to its lead in the sixth with two more runs. Dylan Jenkins scored on a sacrifice fly and Cory Fallon later scored on a hard infield single by Nick Berger.

Amherst rallied for four runs in the seventh to tie the game but the River Hawks regained the lead in the bottom of the inning with a single run. Cameron Ott singled to start the inning and later scored on a bases-loaded passed ball.

Amherst tied the game again in the top of the ninth with a two-out single setting up the dramatic bottom of the ninth inning.

Fallon and Justin Miller hit back-to-back doubles but Fallon was held at third setting up a second and third situation with one out. After Ben Burman was intentionally walked, Berger hit a grounder to third but Amherst was unable to turn the inning-ending double play as the winning run scored from third.

Berger led the offense with two hits and two runs batted in and Leone also had a pair of RBI.

Bobby Klatt started and went six innings allowing one run and striking out five as Brendan Damiano, Cole Luzins and Fallon finished the game.

The River Hawks are off Thursday and play Keystone at 10 a.m. Friday.
