Baseball Drops Twinbill in Virginia

The Susquehanna University Baseball team dropped a pair of games to Roanoke College Saturday afternoon despite combining for 19 hits in the two games at Salem Memorial Ballpark in Salem, Virginia.

In the first game, sophomore Nick Berger was 4-for-4 with three runs batted in leading Susquehanna (1-4) to a 7-5 lead in the seventh inning before Roanoke came back with two runs in the eighth to tie the game and a walk-off run-scoring single in the bottom of the ninth to win the first game of the doubleheader.

Susquehanna started off slow in the first three innings of the game, allowing Roanoke to score five runs in the bottom of the third inning to make the game 5-1 going into the fourth. Susquehanna closed the gap and went ahead over the next four innings, scoring six runs and allowing Roanoke no runs to take the 7-5 lead.

In the top of the eighth inning, Susquehanna was not able to capitalize, leaving two players on base and in the bottom of the eight, Roanoke put together two hits and two runs to knot the game at 7-7.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Susquehanna struggled at the plate with just six hits. Cory Fallon led the River Hawks with three hits and Taylor Luckenbill was 2-for-4.

The River Hawks play next in Florida starting a string of eight games as part of the Swowbird Baseball Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida from March 12 to March 18.
