Klair Sparks Comeback Victory for Women's Lacrosse

Box Score

Sophomore Brooke Klair scored five goals including two in the second half and the eventual game-winning goal late in the game to help the Susquehanna University Women's Lacrosse team come back from a six-goal deficit to defeat Frostburg State 14-13 Thursday night on Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.

Klair was nearly all of the Susquehanna (2-2) offense in the first half as she netted three of the four goals for the River Hawks who were limited to four goals despite out shooting Frostburg (2-4) by a 24-12 margin.

The Bobcats scored on eight of the 12 first half shots to pull ahead 8-4 at the intermission.

In the second half, Liv Cohn opened the period with her first of three goals on the afternoon to narrow the gap to 8-5 but Frostburg answered with three straight goals to open up an 11-5 edge.

Freshman Gabi Toohey stopped the run with her first career goal and 28 seconds later, Klair scored an unassisted goal to make it an 11-7 score.

The Bobcats scored again to make it 12-7 with just less than 20 minutes to play and a man-up goal by Shannon Kinney at the 18:54 mark sparked a six-goal run as the River Hawks came all the way back to take the lead. Cohn scored consecutive goals in the run and Ashley Rose Lynn added a pair of goals that tied the score at 12-12 and gave the River Hawks the lead at 13-12 with 9:49 to play.

Klair made it 14-12 with her fifth goal of the day with just 10 seconds left in a man-up advantage at the 7:00 mark.

The Bobcats added a goal with two minutes to play but Kinney caused a turnover with a minute left giving the ball to the River Hawks who controlled the play for the remainder of the game to post the win.

Klair led Susquehanna with six points on five goals and an assist. Cohn and Kinney had three points each as Cohn scored three times and Kinney added a goal and two assists. Lynn scored twice while Toohey and Carly Beigel each scored once.

Libby Dex played the first half making two saves and Emily Digaetano played the second half and finished with three saves to earn her first win.

The River Hawks will play in Tennessee Wednesday with a neutral site game against Concordia (Wisconsin) and then play Sewanee Friday.
