Balanced Attack Leads Men's Lacrosse past Moravian

Six different players scored goals in the fourth quarter and Dylan Abplanalp made 15 saves in goal as the Susquehanna University Men's Lacrosse team broke open a close game with its fourth quarter outburst to post an 11-6 victory over Moravian College Saturday afternoon in a Landmark Conference game on Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.

Abplanalp kept the game close allowing just four goals while playing all but the final minute in goal for Susquehanna (8-3 Overall, 1-1 Landmark). Moravian (3-4, 0-2) goalie Kurt Dick was credited with 11 saves in the defensive battle for much of the game.

Each team scored a goal in the first quarter with Jake Smolokoff scoring on a pass from Chet McLaughlin with three minutes left in the opening period.

Preston Ouellette and Andrew Porzio scored to start the second quarter as the River Hawks took the lead for good. After the Greyhounds scored midway through the half, Erik Lanyi and McLaughlin added goals to give Susquehanna a 5-2 lead at halftime.

Moravian scored the lone third quarter goal to trim the lead to 5-3 but Porzio and McLaughlin scored in a span of just seven seconds three minutes into the fourth quarter to give the River Hawks a four-goal cushion.

The Greyhounds got one goal back at the 9:20 mark of the period but Susquehanna scored the next four goals over the next five minutes to put the game away.

Ouellette, James Harabedian, Alec Tzaneteas and Smolokoff each scored in the late run for the River Hawks.

Moravian added two goals in the final 33 seconds to cap the scoring for the contest.

McLaughlin led the balanced attack with four points on two goals and two assists while Porzio (two goals and an assist) and Harabedian (one goal and two assists) each contributed three points and Ouellette and Smolokoff each had a pair of goals.

The River Hawks play at Marywood Tuesday but return home to face Catholic in a Landmark game next Saturday.
