Bats Come Alive in Sweep of Franklin and Marshall

The Susquehanna University Softball team recorded 22 hits on the day as the River Hawks posted a pair of non-conference wins over Franklin and Marshall Tuesday afternoon with a come-from-behind 5-4 win and a 9-5 victory in the night cap on the Baker Campus Field in Lancaster.

Brooke Kohler ripped a bases-clearing triple in the top of the seventh inning in the opener to tie the game at 4-4 and came in to score on an Emilie Boman single as Susquehanna (16-8) took a lead and held on for the win in the first game of the doubleheader.

In game two, five River Hawks had at least two hits each including Kasey Bost and Alexa Gonzalez who had three hits each in the win. Boman, Jackie Gore, Heather Pearson, Bost and Gonzalez all accounted for at least a pair of hits. Boman, Bost, Pearson and Gonzalez all had doubles and Gore belted a home run for Susquehanna.

After Susquehanna took an early lead, Franklin and Marshall (7-15) rallied for four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a lead. The River Hawks answered with a run in the third to cut the lead in half and took the lead for good with a four-run fourth.

In the fourth, Bost hit a one-out single up the middle to get things started. She advanced to second on a wild pitch and score on a Gonzalez single. Emily Lear and Leigh Ann Greenwald singled to load the bases. Kohler reached on a fielder's choice with all runners advancing safely before Boman singled to scored two more runs.

Gore's homer came in the sixth inning with a two-run shot to center field.

Jamie Fesinstine struck out six batters in the opener as she earned the save after reentering in the seventh inning. Amanda Seckinger earned the win in relief.

Gonzalez scattered nine hits and struck out four batters to earn the win in game two.

The River Hawks will face Lycoming at home Friday before returning to Landmark Conference play Saturday at Juniata.
