Men's Tennis Drops Thriller in Marathon Match with Catholic

In a match that lasted nearly six hours Sunday afternoon, the Susquehanna University Men's Tennis team dropped a thriller to Catholic University by a 5-4 score on the Garrett Center Tennis Courts in Selinsgrove.

Susquehanna opened with a doubles at No. 2 as Alexander Dove and Alexander Cocolas won an 8-4 decision. Nicholas Meale and Ashton Collins dropped a very tight 9-8 (7-5) tie breaker decision at No. 3 doubles as Catholic took a 2-1 team score advantage into single play.

Catholic won the first two singles matches before the River Hawks rebounded to score wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 to knot the team score at 4-4. Cocolas won 5-7, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, Ryan Seibert was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 4 and Meale won a close match at No. 5 singles after coming back from a 4-6 loss in the first set to win 6-2 and 6-3 in the next two sets to tie the score.

Catholic would pull out the match victory with the win at No. 6 singles. Collins won the opening set 6-1 but lost in a tie-breaker in the second set before falling 6-2 in the final set that decided the overall team score.

The River Hawks will host Elizabethtown and Moravian next weekend in Landmark Conference matches Saturday and Sunday respectively.
