Box Score

A quartet of seniors played key roles in a 9-8 victory as the Susquehanna University Baseball team came back for a 9-8 win Sunday afternoon in the final game of the three-game Landmark Conference series with Elizabethtown on Bollinger Field in Selinsgrove.

Shortly after 13 Susquehanna (20-13 Overall, 11-3) seniors were honored prior to the start of the game, Dylan Jenkins, Cory Fallon, Taylor Luckenbill and Danny Gordon combined for eight hits and eight runs batted in to power the River Hawks past Elizabethtown.

Luckenbill was 3-for-4 with three RBI and Jenkins was 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and three runs batted in. Fallon was 2-for-5 with an RBI and Gordon was 1-for-4 with another RBI for the River Hawks.

Sunday against Elizabethtown, the River Hawks took an early lead with a run in the second inning as Jenkins doubled and scored on a Luckenbill single. Susquehanna added to its lead in the third with a pair of runs as Fallon doubled home Cole Luzins and Jenkins picked up another RBI as Zach Leone scored on a ground out.

Elizabethtown (18-12, 6-6) answered with a run in the fourth but the River Hawks responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to maintain the three-run lead. Gordon doubled home Nick Berger for the run in the bottom of the fourth.

Susquehanna took a 6-1 lead in the fifth when Jenkins led off the inning with a home run to right centerfield and Luckenbill added a run-scoring single scoring Ben Burman later in the frame.

The Blue Jays rallied for six runs – with five scored with two outs – to take a 7-6 lead in the sixth inning.

Luzins tied the score at 7-7 with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth. The River Hawks threatened in the seventh but left bases loaded without scoring and Elizabethtown took an 8-7 lead with a single run in the top of the eighth.

The Susquehanna seniors answered in the bottom of the eighth as Jenkins hit a bases loaded sacrifice fly to tie the game and Luckenbill connected on a two-out single to right field to score Leone from second with the go-ahead run.

Jack Kinney came on to pitch the ninth inning and closed out the game with a 1-2-3 inning for the River Hawks.

Susquehanna will play a non-conference game at Albright Wednesday and then complete the Landmark schedule at Drew Saturday and Sunday.
