Jill Ahrens and Lauren Creamer hit home runs for the Susquehanna University Softball team Saturday afternoon to help the River Hawks battle back to a 4-4 tie with Penn State Berks in the second round of the NCAA Regional Tournament but the Nittany Lions hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to eliminate Susquehanna.

Susquehanna (29-16) fell behind early as Penn State Berks (29-8) scored three times in the bottom of the second inning.

The River Hawks battled back in the top of the third inning with three runs to tie the game. Kasey Bost walked to lead off he inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kelly Miller. Ahrens followed with her first career home run with a blast over the left field fence to pull within a run at 3-2.

The River Hawks were not done in the third as Leigh Ann Greenwald and Heather Peasron hit back-to-back singles. Emilie Boman reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Greenwald to score to tie the game.

Creamer gave Susquehanna a 4-3 lead with a leadoff home run in the fourth inning with a long shot to left centerfield.

Penn State tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run and the score remained tied until the final inning.

The winning home run came with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Ahrens led the River Hawks offense with a 2-for-3 day at the plate with a run scored and two runs batted in. Starting pitcher Jamie Fesinstine had her school record 78 career start and 60th complete game of her career and finished with three strike outs on the afternoon.
