Gore Helps Softball Rebound for Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Sophomore Jackie Gore hit her 13th career home run and added a pair of doubles and a single for a perfect 4-for-4 game at the plate for the Susquehanna University Softball team Tuesday as the River Hawks rebounded from a 9-0 loss in game one to defeat Gettysburg College 8-5 in the night cap to salvage a split of the non-conference doubleheader on Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.

In the opener, Susquehanna (25-13) managed just two hits as Gettysburg (25-12-1) pounded out 11 hits and scored at least two runs in four of the five innings in the five inning victory. Alexa Gonzalez and Kasey Bost had the two hits for the River Hawks.

In game two, Susquehanna jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the first and two in the second. Gore provided the power in the first with a three-run home run after Brooke Kohler singled and Emilie Boman walked.

Gore singled home another run in the second. After Boman connected on a sacrifice fly for the first run of the inning, Gore followed with a single up the middle to score Heather Pearson from third.

Gettysburg bounced back with two runs in the fourth but Gore doubled home another run as Kohler came around to score and Susquehanna maintained a lead at 6-2.

The Bullets made it a one-run game in the fifth with a three-run rally starting the inning with a walk, a single a double and another walk.

Kohler added a run scoring single in the bottom of the inning to give the River Hawks a little breathing room. Gore doubled and scored again in the sixth inning for the final run of the game and starter Jamie Fesinstine surrendered a lead-off single and a walk in the seventh but the Susquehanna defense turned a game-ending double play two batters later to take the win.

Gore finished 4-for-4 with two runs and five RBI while Kohler was 3-for-3. Leigh Ann Greenwald was 2-for-3 including her 100th career hit with a run scored and a run batted in.

The River Hawks open the Landmark Conference Tournament at 1 p.m. Friday against Catholic and would play again at 3 p.m. with a victory in the opener.
