Freshmen Christina Rudderow and Hannah Maykut won the No. 4 doubles title and each also advanced to the finals in singles play for the Susquehanna University Women's Tennis team Saturday and Sunday at the season opening King's College Invitational Tournament in Wilkes-Barre.

Rudderow and Maykut advanced to the finals of the No. 4 doubles bracket with a walkover victory in the semifinal round and then posted an 8-2 victory over the team from Marywood to claim the title.

In singles play, Rudderow advanced to the championship match at No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the first round and a 6-1, 6-0 win in the semifinals. After falling in the first set of the title match, she rebounded to force a tie-breaker in the second set before falling 7-6 (7-5).

Maykut advanced to the championship singles match in the No. 7 position as she posted a tie-breaker win in the semifinals and then dropped a close 6-4, 6-3 match in the finals.

Fellow freshman Nicole Brintzenhoff also lost in the finals of the No. 8 singles bracket. She posted wins of 6-1, 6-2 in the first round and 6-3, 6-1 in the semifinals before falling 6-0, 6-4 in the championship match.

Senior Linsey Sipple advanced to the semifinals at No. 1 singles and also teamed with Abagail Ransom to advance to the semifinals of the No. 1 doubles bracket for the River Hawks. Senior Julia Spear lost in the semifinals of the No. 4 singles bracket and also dropped a semifinal match with teammate Cassey Fox in the No. 2 doubles bracket.

The River Hawks will play next at Penn College of Technology Thursday with a 4 p.m. match.
