Field Hockey Defense Strong in 2-0 Loss

The Susquehanna University Field Hockey team surrendered two early goals and then solidified its defense to hold York College scoreless for the second half but dropped a 2-0 decision Wednesday night in a non-conference matchup on Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.

York (3-1) scored 1:02 into the game and then added a second goal at the 12:09 mark to take a 2-0 lead. From that point on, the Susquehanna (2-2) defense held strong and despite being outshot, did not allow another goal.

The Spartans held a 29-7 shots advantage for the game and an 18-4 edge in the second half.

Emily DiGaetano played all 70 minutes in the River Hawk cage, recording 16 saves. Senior defensive player, Abbey Kemble made three defensive saves and Ciara Middleton also added a defensive save for Susquehanna.

Hunter Pitman and Cayla Spatz combined for four of the seven shots for the River Hawks.

Susquehanna will play its next game at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at McDaniel College.
