Late Free Kick Keeps Women's Soccer Undefeated

Box Score

Freshman Colbie Cummings set a high free kick from 35 yards out over the head of the King's College goalkeeper and into the goal as the Susquehanna University Women's Soccer team took the lead with less than 13 minutes to play and remained undefeated with a 2-1 victory Wednesday afternoon on Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.

King's (3-1) took the lead 28 minutes into the first half of play as Stephanie Corea opened the scoring. The score remained 1-0 through the first half of play.

Early in the second half, Emily Sullivan drilled a shot to the top left corner that found the back of the net just six minutes into the period to knot the score at 1-1.

A foul on a hard tackle from behind from 35 yards out on the far side of the field gave the River Hawks the late scoring opportunity and Cummings put the ball over all the defenders with the ling kick into the goal for the go ahead goal.

Susquehanna outshot the Monarchs 12-3, with eight of those shots in the second half. King's was held without a shot on goal in the second half.

The River Hawks will play next at 6 p.m. Sunday with a home game against Westminster College on Sassafras Field.
