Box Score Freshman Maddie Taylor and sophomore Hunter Pitman scored early goals and senior Julia Hasircoglu added a penalty stroke as the Susquehanna University Field Hockey team posted a 3-1 win over McDaniel College Wednesday afternoon in Westminster, Maryland.
Taylor opened the scoring for Susquehanna (3-2) less than 16 minutes into the game with a shot off a rebound from in close to give the River Hawks the early 1-0 lead.
Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Taylor scored her second goal of the game with a direct shot off a penalty corner with an assist from Jess Smith for the 2-0 Susquehanna lead.
McDaniel (1-4) cut the lead in half seven minutes later with a goal off a rebounded save.
Five minutes later, Susquehanna was awarded a penalty stroke and Hasircoglu scored to give the River Hawks a 3-1 cushion. Susquehanna held the lead and improved to 3-2 on the season.
Emily DiGaetano made seven saves in the Susquehanna cage for the win.
The River Hawks return to action Sunday with a neutral site game against St. Mary's College (Maryland). The game will be played at Notre Dame Prep School in Towson, Maryland with a 1 p.m. start.
