Box Score Cayla Spatz scored twice including the game winning goal with just 1:48 left in overtime as the Susquehanna University Field Hockey team scored a thrilling 3-2 win over Goucher College Saturday afternoon in a Landmark Conference game on Beldon Field in Towson, Maryland.
Spatz opened the scoring 5:21 into the contest with an unassisted goal to give Susquehanna (5-5 overall, 1-1 Landmark) an early lead.
Goucher (3-6, 0-2) tied the score late in the first half and scored again 10 minutes into the second half to take a 2-1 lead.
Maddie Taylor tied the game with a goal on an assist from Hunter Pitman with eight minutes left in regulation and the team headed to overtime with the score tied at 2-2.
Neither team scored in the first half of the overtime period as Spatz ended the game with a hard shot from the top of the circle off a penalty corner with a goal into the lower corner of the cage.
Goucher held a commanding advantage in shots with a 22-9 edge but Emily DiGaetano recorded 13 saves for the River Hawks. She finished with seven saves in regulation and added six more in overtime.
The River Hawks play next at Misericordia Wednesday night with a 7 p.m. game before returning to Landmark play Saturday at home against Scranton.
