Three-Goal Spurt Leads Susquehanna Past King's

Jess Smith, Hunter Pitman and Hope Woolway each scored goals in a span of four minutes and 14 seconds to lead the Susquehanna University Field Hockey team to a 4-2 win over King's Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game in McCarthy Stadium in Wilkes-Barre.

King's (0-3) opened the scoring 11 minutes into the game on a shot from mid-circle but less than six minutes later, Smith tipped in a shot to tie the score and spark the three-goal run for Susquehanna (2-1).

Pitman scored the first of her two goals o the day less than three minutes later with an assist from Maddy Taylor. Woolway capped the scoring outburst 1:09 later with another assist from Taylor.

In the second half, Pitman took a pass from Cayla Spatz and tallied her team-leading fourth goal of the year to make it a 4-1 Susquehanna lead.

King's added a goal at 40:28 to cap the scoring.

Courtney Purnell started for the River Hawks and made five saves in 54 minutes before Emily DiGaetano came in for the last 15 minutes.

The River Hawks return to action Monday night with a 7 p.m. contest against York College.
