Box Score Adam Dizbon scored nine of his 15 points in the second half for the Susquehanna University Men's Basketball team and led four players into double-figures scoring as the River Hawks came back from a 13-point second half deficit to beat Elizabethtown College 82-81 in overtime Saturday in a Landmark Conference game at Elizabethtown.
Elizabethtown (3-11 Overall, 0-4 Landmark) took a 15-5 lead early in the game but Susquehanna (5-9, 2-2) rallied to close the game and came within two points on a Ryan Traub tip-in shot with six minutes left in the period making the score 23-21.
The Blue Jays went up eight before the end of the half and a late layup by Glen Nanius made it a 35-29 lead for Elizabethtown heading into the break.
In the second half, the Blue Jays went on an early run and built a 13-point advantage in the first eight minutes of the period leading 50-37 at the 12:20 mark.
Susquehanna still trailed by double-digits at 57-47 with just less than eight minutes to play in regulation. Dizbon hit a jumper from the top of the key to spark a 7-0 run to trim the lead to just three points.
After Elizabethtown stopped the run, Seth Callahan hit a jumper and a layup to bring the River Hawks to within a point at 59-58 with 2:37 on the clock.
The Blue Jays hit a pair of free throws before Dizbon tied the game with a 3-pointer from the corner. It was the first time the score was tied since 1:20 into the game.
The Blue Jays regained the lead with a three-point play but Callahan hit two free throws and followed with a 3-pointer to give Susquehanna a two-point lead at 66-64 with 49 seconds remaining.
Tyler Hoagland made a pair of free throws to stretch the lead to four points but a 3-pointer by Elizabethtown closed the gap.
Dizbon hit a free throw with 20 seconds left but a late layup by the Blue Jays tied the score and forced the overtime period.
Elizabethtown scored the first four points of the extra session but Susquehanna answered with a 7-1 run to take a 76-74 lead. After another free throw trimmed the lead to a point, Dizbon connected on a jumper to stretch the lead to three points with 1:24 left to play.
The teams traded free throws over the next minute before Callahan hit both of his free throws after Elizabethtown was forced to foul to stop the clock and Susquehanna had a five-point lead at 81-76 with 10 seconds remaining.
The Blue Jays threatened in the closing seconds with a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer and Jordan Harnum scored a free throw between the plays to keep the River Hawks in the lead and seal the victory.
Jacob Walsh led all Susquehanna scorers with 16 points, Dizbon added 15 while Traub and Callahan each finished with 14 points. Walsh also had a team-leading nine rebounds and Nanius finished with nine points and seven rebounds.
Hoagland led the team with four assists and moved into the top-10 on the school record list for career assists as he reached the 300 career assists plateau and currently sits in ninth place on the list.
The River Hawks return to action Wednesday at home with a 7 p.m. Landmark matchup against Juniata.
