Noah Carles scored a goal on an assist from
Maxfield Reed and
Kyle Speckhart made seven saves in net, but the Susquehanna University Men's Soccer team relinquished two goals and the River Hawks were unable to make a comeback in a 2-1 loss against Drew University Saturday afternoon in Madison, New Jersey.
The Rangers (11-5 Overall, 5-2 Landmark) were able to jump out of the gate with a few shots on goal and capitalized on one opportunity in the 16
th minute on a header from a ball sent into the box.
The River Hawks (3-12-2, 1-5-1) were able to settle in and register a few shots themselves, but were unable to score in the opening 45 minutes of action.
Speckhart was able to keep the team in the game, as he made two saves late in the first half and Drew took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Rangers started strong in the second half, doubling the lead to 2-0 in the 51
st minute on a shot that was lobbed over a charging Speckhart's head.
Susquehanna did begin a comeback effort in the 73
rd minute as Carles headed a ball that was off the foot of Reed into the back of the net. The ball nicked the bottom of the crossbar and went in for Carles' second goal of the season.
The Ranger defense held tough, and did not give up a goal over the final minutes of action and Drew escaped with a 2-1 victory.
Carles and
Scott Misson each registered two shots on the afternoon in the defeat.
