Box Score Hunter Pitman and
Vivian Simone each scored a goal while
Sam Banks and A.J. Smith added assists but the Susquehanna University Field Hockey team dropped a hard fought game in a shootout to Misericordia University Wednesday evening at Sassafras Field.
A back and forth game throughout, the Cougars (2-8) were able to score the first goal of the game in the 6
th minute of action.
The River Hawks (5-6) were able to score just a few minutes before halftime as Pitman knotted the score at one on a feed from Banks.
Susquehanna dominated the game with shots, and continued its strong play in the second half.
Simone finished a goal off a crafty feed from Smith in the 54
th minute to give the River Hawks the lead at 2-1.
The Cougars would respond and tie the game at two just a few minutes later. Both teams were unable to score in the final 13 minutes of action before the game went into overtime.
The River Hawks and Cougars each had several scoring chances in the overtime periods, but the story remained the same as no one could find the back of the net.
Emily DiGaetano made a highlight reel save in the second overtime period to keep the score at 2-2 before the Cougars prevailed in a shootout.
Susquehanna out shot Misericordia 26-10 and took 14 penalty corners while the Cougars only took eight.
The River Hawks continue Landmark Conference play Saturday when they take on Catholic at 1 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
