Bryce Butler scored 15 points and added three steals,
Joel Morris had 16 points and
Seth Callahan added eight points as the Susquehanna University Men's Basketball team made a run early in the second half, but eventually fell to Arcadia 79-58 in its season opener Tuesday evening at Alumni Gymnasium in Glenside.
The River Hawks (0-1) took the lead early in the first half as Butler scored the team's first five points to lead 5-2.
The Knights (1-1) responded by knotting up the score shortly after, and the two teams went back and forth over the first eight minutes of the contest.
After a made jumper by Callahan and a three pointer by
Matt LaCorte, the River Hawks clung to a 13-12 lead before Arcadia went on an extended 23-11 run to close out the half.
Susquehanna ran into some cold shooting and was outrebounded 23-17 in the first half, but forced ten turnovers to keep themselves in the game.
Entering the second half trailing 35-24, the River Hawks climbed back into the game, trimming the Arcadia lead to six points on three separate occasions.
A conventional three-point play by
Zach Knecht and back-to-back finishes at the rim by Butler sparked the run.
With the score at 49-43 in favor of Arcadia, the Knights proceeded to go on a 11-0 run to put the game out of reach over halfway through the second half.
Morris caught fire from beyond the arc late in the game, but it was too late and Arcadia came away with the victory.
The River Hawks outrebounded the Knights 19-16 in the second half. Knecht led the team with seven rebounds.
Susquehanna continues its season Friday when the team takes on King's College in the first leg of the Susquehanna Trailways Tip-off Tournament. The game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m.
