Men's Tennis Drops Spring Opener at Shenendoah

Juniors Alexander Dove and Alexander Cocolas teamed up to post the first winning set of the season for the Susquehanna University Men's Tennis team but the River Hawks dropped an 8-1 decision to Shenendoah University late Saturday in the first match of the season in Virginia. 

Dove and Cocolas won a 9-8 decision with a 7-3 tie-breaker at No. 1 Doubles to get things started for Susquehanna (0-1). Shenandoah (1-0) won the other two doubles matches including a tight 9-8 decision with another 7-3 tie-breaker at the No. 2 position as Ryan Seibert and Ben Ornstein dropped the close decision. 

Shenandoah swept the singles competition including the deciding match at No. 1 singles. The 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 was the fifth victory of the night for Shenendoah and clinched the overall win. 

Seibert, at No. 4 singles and Nicholas Meale, at No. 5 singles, both lost in close tie-breaker matches. Seibert's match was the tightest singles match of the night. After falling 7-5 in the first set, Seibert bounced back to win 7-6 with an 8-6 tie-breaker to force the third set. In the third, Seibert fell by close 7-5 score. 

The River Hawks are now off until March 31 with a home match against Goucher.
