Box Score Courtney Adams and Erin McQuillen each scored in double figures but it was not enough as the Susquehanna University Women's Basketball Team fell to Scranton, 64-47 Wednesday night in a Landmark Conference game at the John Long Center in Scranton.
Susquehanna (11-12 Overall, 6-7 Landmark) started the game with an 8-2 run, including six points from Adams.
After leading 13-11 through the first quarter, the Susquehanna offense was held in check, managing only three points and trailed 25-16 at the half.
The River Hawks brought the lead down to six early on in the third quarter when Tess Nichols made a three-point play, but Scranton soon pulled away outscoring Susquehanna 21-11 over the remainder of the third quarter to take a 48-32 lead heading into the final quarter.
An Adams free throw with 3:43 remaining cut the lead down to 12, but Scranton remained in control to post the win. The loss dropped Susquehanna into a tie for 5th place in the Landmark Conference with Catholic University but due to tie-breakers, have been eliminated from tournament contention.
Adams lead the River Hawks with 17 points and McQuillen was the only other double digit scorer with 12. Tess Nichols chipped in with eight points and Maddie Murray led the team with nine rebounds.
Susquehanna finishes the regular season slate Saturday with a home game against Elizabethtown. Seniors Adams, Nichols, Holly Crossin, Desiree Furbert and Megan McFadden will be honored prior to the start of the game.
