Adams Scores Her 1000th Point in Final Minute of her Career

Box Score

It took the full four years but senior Courtney Adams became the 12th player in Susquehanna University Women's Basketball history to score 1000 points on the final shot of her career. The River Hawks fell to Elizabethtown College by a score of 81-56 in the season finale but none of that seemed to matter as she closed in on the milestone in the fourth quarter Saturday afternoon in OW Houts Gymnasium in Selinsgrove.

Adams entered the game needing 22 points to eclipse the milestone and finished with 23 and also grabbed eight rebounds and had four steals.

Susquehanna (11-13 overall, 6-8 Landmark) fell behind early as Elizabethtown (15-9, 9-5) jumped out to a 25-14 lead after the first quarter of action.

The River Hawks defense clamped down in the second quarter to limit the Blue Jays to 11 points but the offense was limited to 15 and Susquehanna went into the halftime break down seven points at 36-29.

Adams had 10 points in the first half and came out scoring in the third quarter on a mission to score her 1000th point. She scored four of the first six points for the River Hawks and helped to trim the lead to five points at 40-35 early in the third quarter.

Elizabethtown answered with an 11-9 run to extend the lead to double-figures. After a Holly Crossin 3-pointer made it an 11-point advantage, Elizabethtown closed the quarter on a 10-5 run with all five points for Susquehanna coming from Adams as she moved to 19 points on the day and just three points shy of the mark.

Adams grabbed an offensive rebound and made the put-back with 6:56 left to play to reach 999 career points. Tess Nichols scored a bucket at 3:58 and Adams finished off the 1000-point effort with a layup with 22 seconds left to play.

Adams finished with 23 points and Nichols scored 12. Bailey Trell led the team with 10 rebounds and also had three assists.

Prior to the game seniors Adams, Nichols, Crossin, Desiree Furbert and Megan McFadden along with manager Danielle Ramsey were honored.
