Brooke Klair and Kathrina DeMaio each scored twice for the Susquehanna University Women's Lacrosse team but the River Hawks dropped their season opener 15-6 against Misericordia University Saturday afternoon at Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.

Helena Woytovich scored the opening goal just over a minute into the game to give Susquehanna (0-1) an early lead, but Misericordia (1-1) answered back with its first goal less than a minute later.

After two more goals by the Cougars, Klair scored her first goal of the game with a man-down goal to bring the River Hawks within one at 3-2 with 19:28 left to play in the opening period.

Over the next five minutes, Misericordia scored four unanswered goals to go up 7-2 midway through the first half.

Trailing 7-2, Klair tallied her second goal of the day on an assist by Christine Hoerman on a man-advantage situation.

Two more Misericordia goals gave the Cougars a 9-3 lead late in the period but Caroline Rabiecki finished the first half scoring with a goal on an assist from Klair with 3:29 remaining.

The River Hawks opened the second half scoring with DeMaio netting two goals with a goal from Misericordia in between and the River Hawks trailed 10-6 with 21:32 left to play.

The Cougars offense took over and scored the last five goals of the contest for the final margin of victory.

Klair finished with three points, contributing her two goals as well as an assist. DeMaio totaled two points and Christine Hoerman finished with one. Libby Dex made nine saves for the River Hawks.

Susquehanna travels to Lebanon Valley for its next contest at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
