Box Score Alec Tzaneteas scored six goals with two assists and Andrew Porzio had four goals and an assist as the Susquehanna University Men's Lacrosse team scored 12 of its 16 goals in the second half to run away with a 16-8 victory over Bryn Athyn College at General Nelson Field in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania.
With his strong performance, Tzaneteas has now eclipsed 100 points for his career. With 105 points, 65 goals and 40 assists, he is now in the top 10 for career totals in the three major offensive categories.
Susquehanna (5-4) scored the opening goal when Tzaneteas capitalized on a feed from Porzio with 12:23 remaining in the first quarter. Bryn Athyn (1-4) rebounded three minutes later to knot the game up at one.
After several minutes without a goal, Bryn Athyn scored again to take their first and only lead of the game. The quarter came to a close with the Lions leading 2-1.
Susquehanna tied the game a few minutes into the second quarter when Jack Donnelly scored a man-up goal on an assist from Colton Dick. A minute later, Jake Fox lead a River Hawk fast break and scored to take the lead back.
After another Lions goal, Porzio scored on an assist from Jack Gerrity with 6:39 remaining in the half. Following another period of time without a goal, Bryn Athyn scored with 19 seconds left to knot up the score at four heading into halftime.
The River Hawks came out firing in the third quarter, scoring four of the first five goals in the period. Porzio got it started when he scored on a Donnelly assist at the 13:51 mark to take a 5-4 lead.
Following a Lions goal, Tzaneteas and Connor Ward scored back-to-back unassisted goals during the middle stages of the quarter. Leading 7-5, Porzio scored on an assist by Tzaneteas to extend the lead.
Bryn Athyn bounced back to trim the lead to 8-6, but Tzaneteas scored once more in the closing seconds of the third quarter to take a 9-6 lead into the final quarter.
Susquehanna poured it on in the fourth, scoring seven goals. Jack DiGregorio scored on an assist from Jake Smolokoff with 13:20 left in the game. The Lions countered with a goal of their own, but DiGregorio scored again to extend the lead to 11-7.
The River Hawks dominated the following five minutes of action, scoring three more times. Tzaneteas netted an unassisted goal, Porzio scored a man up goal on an assist by Tzaneteas, and Tzaneteas scored on an assist by DiGregorio with 6:15 remaining to extend their lead to 14-7.
Moments later, the Lions scored their final goal of the game and Susquehanna scored two more times to cement the 16-8 victory. Gerrity scored a man up goal off a feed from Donnelly and Tzaneteas capped off his strong day with his sixth goal of the contest.
The River Hawks won 19-of-28 faceoffs and outshot Bryn Athyn 49-19. Dylan Abplanalp contributed five saves in net before being replaced late in the fourth quarter.
Susquehanna begins Landmark Conference play at 1 p.m. Saturday with a game against Elizabethtown on Sassafras Field.
