Box Score Christine Hoerman and Stephanie Dowling each recorded a goal and an assist during a second half run for the Susquehanna University Women's Lacrosse team but the River Hawks could not overcome an early deficit to Elizabethtown College as the Blue Jays posted a 19-11 victory Saturday afternoon in the Landmark Conference opener for both teams on Wolf Field in Elizabethtown.
Elizabethtown (5-3 overall, 1-0 Landmark) scored the first five goals of the game to take an early lead less than six minutes into the contest before Kathrina DeMaio stopped the run for Susquehanna (1-4, 0-1) with a free position goal at the 23:42 mark.
The teams traded goals over the next 13 minutes with Gabi Toohey scoring twice for the River Hawks. The Blue Jays scored six of the last eight goals of the opening half to take a 14-5 lead into the break. Toohey added her third of the game and Brooke Burnett scored on a free position shot late in the first half for Susquehanna.
Brooke Klair scored for the River Hawks to open the second half but Elizabethtown surged ahead 17-6 with three consecutive goals in a span of 11 minutes.
DeMaio stopped the run and Caroline Rabiecki and Hoerman scored consecutive goals at the River Hawks started to put together a comeback effort.
Dowling and Klair each scored down the stretch as the teams traded goals over the last six minutes of action.
Toohey led the Susquehanna offense with three goals while DeMaio and Klair each had a pair of goals and an assist. Klair finished with seven draw controls while Libby Dex finished with 12 saves and four groundballs.
The River Hawks will play at Lycoming Tuesday afternoon and play Moravian in a home Landmark Conference game at 4 p.m. Friday.
