Box Score Kathrina DeMaio scored three times for the Susquehanna University Women's Lacrosse team but it was one of the few bright spots for the River Hawks as Susquehanna dropped a 21-7 decision to Moravian College Friday afternoon in a Landmark Conference game on Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.
Moravian (7-1 overall, 2-0 Landmark) scored first but Caroline Rabiecki answered three minutes later for Susquehanna (2-5, 0-2) with a free position goal to knot the score at 1-1.
The Greyhounds then scored 11 of the next 12 goals to take a commanding lead. Mel Barracato scored in the middle of the Moravian run for the River Hawks and DeMaio scored the first of her three goals on the day near the end of the half as the teams went into the intermission with Moravian holding a 15-3 lead.
In the second half, Stephanie Dowling and DeMaio each scored in the first 10 minutes of the period for Susquehanna and DeMaio added her third of the game at the 10:20 mark but the River Hawks still trailed by a 19-6 score.
Moravian added two more goals late in the period with a majority of its starters on the field before Gabi Toohey capped the scoring for the River Hawks with 14 seconds left.
DeMaio led the River Hawks with her three goals. Alison Elf led the team with three ground balls while Una Heinzerling and Nikki Hauck recorded two draw controls each and Chrstine Hoerman forced a pair of turnovers to lead Susquehanna.
The River Hawks are off until April 7 for a Landmark Conference game at home against Catholic.
