Defense Stands Tall as Men's Lacrosse Wins Sixth Straight

Box Score

Dylan Abplanalp made five saves and the Susquehanna University Men's Lacrosse defense forced 21 turnovers as the River Hawks won their sixth consecutive game with a 10-4 victory over Marywood University Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game on Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.

The Susquehanna (9-4) defense limited Marywood (7-5) to one goal in each quarter as 10 different players recorded caused turnovers with James Abramo, James Tsilionis and Louis Pillari each recording two for the River Hawks.

The defensive effort also limited the Pacers to just 12-of-23 clears and held Marywood to 0-for-4 in man-up situations including one for a full minute with two men out with penalties.

The River Hawks entered the game ranked No. 2 in the country in man-down defense and lead the Landmark conference in man-down and scoring defense for the season.

Offensively, Andrew Porzio scored two of his team-leading four goals in a four-goal spurt to start the game as the River Hawks built an early 4-0 lead.

Jake Smolokoff added two goals in the second quarter with the second coming on a man-up situation as Susquehanna pushed ahead 6-1. A late Marywood goal made it a 6-2 lead for the River Hawks at halftime.

Porzio added two more goals in the third quarter and Connor Ward notched his sixth goal of the season to give the River Hawks a 9-3 lead after three quarters.

Jack Donnelly scored for Susquehanna in the fourth quarter and Marywood added a late goal for the final margin of victory.

Porzio led the offense with four points on four goals, Donnelly, Alec Tzaneteas and Colton Dick had three points each as Donnelly scored twice, Tzaneteas had a goal and two assists and Dick handed out three assists.
