Craig Roumes went 4-for-6 with five RBI and a solo home run and Ben Burman went 4-for-5 with three RBI as the Susquehanna University Baseball team nearly came back from a 14-2 deficit but eventually dropped a 15-11 decision to Arcadia University Wednesday at Skip Wilson Field in Ambler.
Arcadia (16-8) got off to a hot start in the first inning by scoring four runs to give the Knights the early lead. Susquehanna (7-15) was able to score a run in the top of the second inning when Roumes scored Cameron Ott on an RBI single, but Arcadia scored five more runs in the bottom of the third to take a 9-1 advantage.
Burman chipped away at the lead with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth before the Knights scored five more runs in the bottom of the inning to break the game open.
The River Hawks capitalized on a seven-run sixth inning to bring the score to 14-9 and bring Susquehanna back into the game.
With Nick Berger on first base and no one out in the sixth, Steve Lorenz brought him home on an RBI double. After Cameron Ott and Anthony Dombrowski walked to load the bases, Roumes hit a bases clearing double to drive in three more runs. With two outs, Burman drove in Roumes with an RBI single. Two batters later, Berger drove in Berman to push across the final run of the inning before the side was retired.
In the top of the seventh inning with Roumes and Cole Luzins on base, Berman drove in another run with a single to left field to bring the River Hawks within four runs at 14-10.
In the bottom of the eighth inning Arcadia pushed across another run to lead 15-10 and Roumes hit a solo homerun over the left field wall in the top of the ninth but the River Hawk rally fell short as they dropped a 15-11 decision.
Roumes finished the day with four hits, five RBI and three runs scored. Berman matched Roumes with four hits of his own. Justin Miller, Luzins, Berger and Lorenz all finished with multiple hits on the day.
Sean Rodriguez threw three innings in relief while giving up one run and striking out three.
