Box Score 2 Alexa Gonzalez and Gabby Bubba combined to allow just one run in 12 combined innings as the Susquehanna University Softball team swept a doubleheader from Penn College Wednesday in a non-conference matchup on Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.
Gonzalez threw a five-inning shutout and allowed just one hit in an 8-0 win while Bubba allowed a run on nine hits in a 6-1 victory for Susquehanna (15-9). Penn College (8-12) scored its only run in the seventh inning of the second game.
The River Hawks started hot in each game posting three runs in the first inning of each contest. In the first game, Susquehanna scored in four of the five innings with a run in the second and two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings before Jill Ahrens ended the game with a run scoring single with one out in the bottom of the fifth for the run rule victory.
Emilie Boman, McKayla Brady and Emily Lear had two hits each to pace the offense in the opener while Boman and Kasey Bost had two runs batted in each.
In the second game, after Susquehanna took another 3-0 lead in the first, the River Hawks added three more with a rally in the fourth and then surrendered the only run of the day in the top of the seventh inning.
Morgan Derrick had a pair of hits including a triple to lead the offense while Leigh Ann Greenwald accounted for a pair of runs batted in.
Bubba scattered nine hits and walked one batter for the win.
Susquehanna returns to Landmark Conference play Saturday with a home doubleheader against Juniata with a 1 p.m. start.
