Box Score Alec Tzaneteas scored five goals and had two assists and Jack Donnelly netted three goals to lead the Susquehanna University Men's Lacrosse team to a convincing 17-7 victory over Goucher College Saturday afternoon in a Landmark Conference game on Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.
Tzaneteas scored his first goal of the day in the first minute of action as Susquehanna (10-4 overall, 4-0) took the early lead. The win kept the River Hawks unbeaten in conference play and was also the school-record seventh consecutive win. Susquehanna had won six consecutive games in 2011 and again in 2015.
The Tzaneteas goal was the start of a four-goal run to start the game and give the River Hawks a 4-0 lead. Goucher (7-6, 1-2) scored a man-up goal late in the first period to make it a 4-1 game after the first 15 minutes.
The teams traded goals for the first 14 minutes of the second quarter before Tzaneteas added his third goal of the game at the 1:18 mark and then scored a dramatic goal on a pass from Colton Dick from behind the goal with less than a second remaining in the half to give Susquehanna an 8-4 lead at the break.
The Gophers scored three of the first four goals of the second half to trim the lead to 9-7 but the Susquehanna defense stepped up and did not allow a goal for the rest of the game while the offense netted three goals before the end of the third quarter and added five more in the fourth period for the final margin of victory.
Tzaneteas led all scorers with his seven points, Andrew Porzio added five points on two goals and three assists and Dick recorded a goal and three assists. Donnelly scored three times and Jack DiGregorio scored twice for the River Hawks.
Pierce Mead had eight ground balls and won 11 face-offs while Travis Yaga and James Tsilionis each forced a pair of turnovers. Dylan Abplanalp made eight saves.
The River Hawks take a break from conference play with a non-league matchup against Washington and Lee Tuesday afternoon with a 4 p.m. game against the Generals who are ranked No. 13 in the USILA Coaches Poll.
