Box Score 2 Heather Pearson had five hits, Kelly Miller had four hits and Emilie Boman had three hits on the day as the Susquehanna University Softball team used the offense to put together a pair of wins over Wilkes University Tuesday afternoon as the River Hawks swept the non-conference doubleheader on Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.
Boman was 3-for-3 with a double, a run and two runs batted in in the opener as Susquehanna (21-9) won a 9-1 game in five innings and Pearson was 3-for-3 with a double, a run and four runs batted in as the River Hawks completed the sweep with a 7-1 win in the nightcap.
For the day, Pearson was 5-for-7 with two doubles, three runs and five RBI while Miller was 4-for-5.
In game one, Susquehanna scored three times in each of the first two innings. The big hit in the second inning was a Boman bases-loaded single that scored all three runners and gave the River Hawks a 6-0 lead.
Susquehanna scored a single run in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings. A Peasron double scored pinch runner Kody Streeter for the winning run to give the River Hawks the eight-run advantage.
In game two, Susquehanna took ma 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second inning and opened up a 5-0 lead with three kore in the fourth and a 7-0 lead with two more runs in the fifth.
Wilkes (17-13) scored its only run of the game with a solo home run in the seventh inning.
Pearson had run-scoring singles in both the second and fourth innings while McKayla Brady knocked in a pair of runs in the fourth. Pearson's double in the fifth plated two more runners.
Alexa Gonzalez allowed a run on four hits with three strikeouts to earn her 10th win of the season in the opener and freshman Brooke Wiarda moved to 2-0 with a run on four hits and two strikeouts in game two.
After 10 straight home games, Susquehanna plays at Lycoming Thursday before returning home Saturday for a Landmark Conference doubleheader against Elizabethtown with senior day recognition between the games of the twinbill.
