For the second day in a row, the Susquehanna University Baseball team scored runs in the later innings to come back from a deficit and win. Wednesday, the River Hawks scored five runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to post a 10-6 win over Messiah College in a non-conference game on Bollinger Field in Selinsgrove.

Susquehanna (11-16) trailed 3-2 after the first inning and fell behind by three runs after Messiah (8-16) score two more runs in the fifth.

The Susquehanna offense broke free for five runs in the sixth to take the lead. The big hit came from Cole Luzins who hit a bases-loaded double to score three runs and Tom Giaimo followed with a single to score Luzins to give the River Hawks a 7-5 lead.

Messiah got one back in the top of the seventh before Susquehanna extended the lead with three more runs in the bottom of the seventh. Peter Yarem singled home one run before Justin Miller and Luzins both drew bases-loaded walks to force home the other two runs.

For the day, Susquehanna took advantage of 10 walks and three Falcon errors to score 10 runs on just seven hits.

Giaimo was 2-for-5 with a run and a run batted in while Luzins was 1-for-3 with two walks, a run and four RBI.

Seven River Hawks pitchers combined for the win as Tyson Thrush earned the pitching victory with a shutout inning of relief and Bobby Grigas closed the door with three strikeouts in the ninth. The staff combined for nine strikeouts on the day.

Susquehanna returns to Landmark Conference play Saturday at Elizabethtown with a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader and a 12 p.m. single game Sunday.
